Head of School
“At Tessie, we believe gifted children are not defined solely by intellect but by their full humanity — curiosity, sensitivity, complexity, and creativity. The Beneventi 10 are guiding educational design principles that reflect our commitment to whole-person development. Though outlined individually, they are deeply interwoven — any one classroom moment may embody several.” — Anne Beneventi
Building on this foundation, Luthern Williams serves as Head of School at Tessellations, guiding the school through a period of strategic growth and institutional maturation. Since joining in November 2024, he has enhanced program coherence, maintained strong faculty retention, completed successful annual fund campaigns with high participation from faculty, parents, and the board, and deepened alignment across the community, reflecting a shift toward a more intentional, mission-driven institution.
He has worked closely with faculty and staff to redesign the middle school, to advance Tessellations’ distinctive approach to literacy instruction for gifted learners, and to build the structures necessary to support long-term excellence without compromising the school’s ethos, rooted in its core values: kind hearts, integrity, open minds, generosity, and humility.
A Harvard-trained educator and school developer, Luthern brings a clear point of view: “Education is human development work”. Without that foundation and well-being, academic performance may be achieved, but neither sustainable excellence nor cognitive health can be maintained. His leadership reflects a commitment to ensuring that rigor, defined as depth and complexity, is paired with the cultivation of full human potential. He develops schools that cultivate love of learning, intellectual depth, discernment, judgment, originality, and character.
In a world of increasing cognitive abundance, he is focused on fostering the conditions in which students learn not only to perform but also to think deeply, relate meaningfully, and act ethically and wisely in an interconnected global community.
The Board’s appointment of Luthern reflects a shared commitment to the long-term future of Tessellations and to cultivating the full potential of the gifted young people it serves.
